What are Yoga & Ayurveda?
Yoga and Ayurveda are two complementary disciplines that focus on the body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda, knowledge of life, is an art and science, inspired by the ancient Indian Sage, Purnarvasu Atreya, to foster the balance and health of the body and mind. Yoga is the ancient science and art of developing the body and mind to prepare for the ultimate emancipation and enlightenment of the soul. Both Yoga and Ayurveda are rooted in the ancient Sanskrit texts called the Vedas. The Vedic scholar David Frawley states, “Yoga is first and foremost a science of Self-realization, Ayurveda is primarily a science of Self-healing”, “The link between Yoga and Ayurveda is prana, life force”.
According to Ayurveda, yoga practice and massage should be tailored to the individual. As a massage therapist and yoga instructor, I hear students and clients claim, “I've been doing yoga regularly but still my body hurts”, or “I get massages regularly and I still hurt”. Perhaps, if a personalized, ayurvedic approach was offered, a constitutional balance would emerge. Ayurveda is the path to self understanding and awareness, a tool to help guide you on your quest to balance your life and find the appropriate path.
